Further Information:
Every child has the right to a family life. Foster carers provide safe and loving homes for children who cannot live with their own families. This can be for a few days until a temporary problem at home is resolved or for several years until a child reaches adulthood.
If you have time, commitment and experience of looking after children, you could be a foster carer. Personal qualities are much more important than your age or where you live. You can be single, married, divorced or living with your partner. Unemployed, retired or working. Living in your own or rented home. You will need to share your home and family life, but that does not mean you need a big house. What is important is that you have space for a child/children. Foster carers must be over 18 and you cannot foster if you have a record of criminal offences against children. To ensure all children are safe we carry out police checks during the assessment process.
