Service Description: | Cowley International College is a popular high school situated in the North West of England, in the relatively small town of St. Helens. Founded in the 1900s it has been at the forefront of local traditions, whilst being at the cutting edge of technological development. It is a larger than average comprehensive school with an average-size sixth form. There are 1440 pupils and students on roll with 224 students in the sixth form. In 2001 the school was awarded Language College status and is also involved in the ‘Excellence in Cities’ initiative. The school has also gained recognition in sport (Sports Mark 2000) and the arts (Arts Mark 2001); the number of students involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is exceptionally large. The school takes pupils from up to 28 primary schools. The college continues to make large investments within ICT and is reaping the benefits in terms of GCSE and A Level results. There are 25 computer suites comprising over 600 networked computers for pupil use. The college computer systems are constantly being refurbished and replaced to keep up with the changes in technology. We have a dedicated cyber cafe, library and sixth form computer room, as well as computers for staff access and general use computer rooms.
